CARMEL is a development centre for intellectually disabled children irrespective of caste or creed. It is run by the CARMELITE SISTERS OF UDAYA PROVINCE, IRINJALAKUDA (KERALA).Carmel is run by a charitable society called “Carmel Charitable Society” registered under the Tamil Nadu act 27 societies Registration Act 1975(455 of 1995). We do impart free education facilities to our children. Besides developing in our children the basic characteristics and social skills by using up to date scientific techniques, we do give them vocational training in simple jobs suited to their varying degrees of knowledge.
Carmel centre aims to enable students to be self sufficient members of the society thereby helping them to earn their own livelihood and play the role of a good citizen for our mother INDIA. We have sucessfully undergone 32 eventual years of service to the special needs children. Many people of good willl and great by thoughts stood by us and we owe much to them. we have started this school with one child, but now we have 103 children studying in school and 450+ alumini students.
At present we have a strength of 29 fully trained teaching and non teaching staff, the staff are following Madras developmental programming system. Students are trained not only in academic skills but also to develop their innate talents and skills by taking an active part in the Co- curricular activities of the school. We have Yoga classes, Speech Therapy, Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy.
Our infrastructure : There are 16 classrooms and two multipurpose halls and one physiotheraphy unit, three class rooms for play school and tailoring unit for women started in 1996. We have started three smart classes in 2011 and started a speech therapy lab in 2017 as a part of jubliee year
